On January 1st, 2012, I had a sprained MCL from a fall on the slopes. I was dealing with the beginnings of my beloved dog’s decline and my mother’s chronic health issues. I was also seeing exciting changes in my business, and my children were happy and thriving. A typical mixed bag of events and circumstances.
Today, on January 1st, 2013, the details of my list are different. “Stuff” has changed, but have I changed? What about you? Have you taken control when you could? Did the tough times eat away at your faith or foster your hope? Did a prosperous year make you more complacent or more grateful? Have you transformed your mindset to become a healthier, happier human being? What are you becoming in response to your circumstances?
Personally, I think continuous self evaluation is worthwhile, but if you feel comfortable waiting for the symbolic rebirth of January 1st, then today is your day. In between tidying up the house, preparing to get back into the swing of things, and Twilight Zone episodes, consider writing down the ways in which you have changed this year. Contemplate how you see your place in this world differently… how you view your role at home and in the workplace, your connections with your spouse, children, friends and coworkers with more clarity. In what ways have you used your circumstances to become healthier and happier and to influence others?

Great post! I like the idea of self evaluation, it will definitely help me to be more responsible and grateful.
